Simulation of Urban Heat Island during a High-Heat Event Using WRF Urban Canopy Models: A Case Study for Metro Manila

چکیده
This present study aims to determine the performance of using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model, coupled with urban canopy models (UCMs), in simulating 2 m air temperature relative humidity Metro Manila. The simulation was performed during a high heat event on 22–29 April 2018, which coincided dry season Philippines. four model options that were used this include, bulk (no urban), SLUCM, BEP, BEM. results simulations compared hourly observations from three weather stations over Manila National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration Integrated Surface Dataset (ISD) one agrometeorological station Naic, Cavite. After validation, island (UHI) then characterized spatial-temporal variations cities Statistical show WRF for agrees measurements an RMSE <3.0 °C, mean bias error <2.0 index agreement >0.80. still presents challenge where errors are higher than acceptable range. addition UCMs does not necessarily improve temperature, while use BEP improved simulation. suggest importance actual morphology values accurately simulate near-surface variables. On other hand, shows presence islands, notably northwest central area daytime, extending throughout nighttime. Lower consistently observed areas near Laguna Lake, due stagnant winds High also daytime until nighttime, especially bodies water like Bay Lake humidity.

Observations of urban boundary layer structure during a strong urban heat island event
It has long been known that the urban surface energy balance is different to that of a rural surface, and that heating of the urban surface after sunset gives rise to the Urban Heat Island (UHI). Less well known is how flow and turbulence structure above the urban surface are changed during different phases of the urban boundary layer (UBL). This paper presents new observations above both an ur...
متن کاملa study on thermodynamic models for simulation of 1,3 butadiene purification columns
attempts have been made to study the thermodynamic behavior of 1,3 butadiene purification columns with the aim of retrofitting those columns to more energy efficient separation schemes. 1,3 butadiene is purified in two columns in series through being separated from methyl acetylene and 1,2 butadiene in the first and second column respectively. comparisons have been made among different therm...
THIS - Tool for Heat Island Simulation: A GIS extension model to calculate urban heat island intensity based on urban geometry
This paper presents a simulation model, which was incorporated into a Geographic Information System (GIS), in order to calculate the maximum intensity of urban heat islands based on urban geometry data. The methodology of this study stands on a theoretical-numerical basis (Oke’s model), followed by the study and selection of existing GIS tools, the design of the calculation model, the incorpora...

We are all familiar with the fact that cities are generally warmer than the surrounding, more rural areas. We see it referenced most nights in our television weather reports. It is especially significant on nights with clear skies and light winds which favor radiational cooling. This is most significant in the rural areas but in the city, the excess heat absorbed during the day and the local he...
